metal frame
Stainless steel
Stainless steel frames are lightweight, strong, durable, flexible and corrosion resistant. Depending on the finish, they are also available in a matte or polished finish. They are the first choice of materials when you are looking for a cheap frame.
memory metal
Memory Metal is a titanium alloy composed of a 50/50 combination of titanium and nickel. These frames are flexible and can be restored to their original condition, making them ideal for children and people who experience a lot of stress from wearing their frames every day.
titanium
This is a high quality material that is very strong, durable and corrosion resistant. It is very light and therefore can be used to create the lightest metal components for all types of motorized movements. It is also hypoallergenic, making it an ideal material for eyeglass frames.
beta titanium alloy
This is an alloy made primarily of titanium, but with small amounts of aluminum and vanadium mixed in. These supplemental metals make titanium more pliable and easier to install and adjust.
beryllium
This is a lower cost alternative to titanium that resists corrosion and discoloration. Beryllium is an excellent choice for people with high acidity in their skin or those who spend a lot of time in or around salt water. On the plus side, beryllium is also very flexible and strong, yet still remains lightweight.
Monel alloy
A very popular and inexpensive material made from an alloy of nickel and copper. This material is cheaper to make, the quality really depends on the plating used, and they will tarnish over time due to the presence of copper. Additionally, it may cause skin reactions over time.
aluminum
Aluminum offers the best combination of strength, weight and durability. Frames made of aluminum are lightweight and highly resistant to corrosion.
Plastic frames
polycarbonate
This is a relatively cheap plastic and one of the most commonly used plastics in eyeglass frames. While very cheap and durable to begin with, it becomes brittle over time and 9 times out of 10 it will fail before the summer is over.
Zyl / acetate
It is a cheap and lightweight material available in a variety of colors. Acetate is the most commonly used material for expensive designer frames. Acetate is a high-quality plastic derived from renewable resources, wood pulp and natural cotton fibers. The frame is formed from a single piece of material and then heated and shaped to add curves and slopes.
nylon.
Nylon is strong, lightweight, and flexible, but can become brittle over time. Over time, different blends have emerged to replace nylon, such as polyamide, copolyamide, and glutamine, which are more durable.
Propionate (nylon)
This is a nylon-based plastic that is strong, flexible, lightweight, and hypoallergenic. Propionate is commonly used in sports frames due to its durability and flexibility.
TR90 (nylon) (memory frame technology)
Produced using Swiss technology, it is an extremely durable, flexible and lightweight thermoplastic material. TR90 is our material of choice because they are so lightweight you can barely feel it, you have to wear it to believe it. Most, if not all, of our sunglasses are made from TR90 material, which we use for frames made with memory frame technology.
